Heavy Menstrual Periods

Another potential cause of heavy periods is an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) may cause heavy periods. Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include

  • low energy level and fatigue
  • difficulty staying warm
  • coarse and dry skin
  • muscle aches or muscle weakness
  • slowness of memory or thinking tasks
  • facial puffiness, particularly around the eyes
  • coarse hair or hair loss.
